Exercises To Do At Home

10:30:00

Since starting my weight loss and fitness journey I have had so many people tweet me and tell me I've given them motivation to work out which gives me the motivation I need to carry on and reach my goal body. The thing is though, people aren't as lucky as me to have a job where they are able to go to the gym almost daily. Which is why I wanted to throw together a little post for a few home exercises. Now I am in no way an exercise expert but it's nice to help out others. It would be great to be able to have a home gym, but obviously that isn't an option here. And you don't need tons of fancy equipment to be able to work out. Some of the most effective exercises are the most simple ones. So here are 10 great exercises you can do at home without the need for equipment!

Walking - If the weather is nice you can go for a long walk outside. Take yourself off to the nearest park or lake and get your walk on! Start off small and work up to longer and harder walks. You can really push yourself by power walking with some hand weights.

Crunches - I recently invested in a yoga mat so I could do a couple of the more embarrassing workouts at home. Crunches are the best exercise for building up your core strength and abdominal muscles. Don't worry if at first your head comes all the way up, as long you can feel the stretching of your muscles you will benefit and see the effects.

Jumping Jacks/Star Jumps - These were always such good fun as a kid, and they had some pretty great benefits. They are a great cardio exercise and great for warming up. Test yourself and see how many you can do within 60 seconds and then try to beat that amount the next time round.

Skipping - Grab yourself a skipping rope and get your skip on. As well as being a great way to burn fat and increase your heart rate, it's fun and brings back childhood memories. Do the same as with the jumping jacks, see how many you can do in 60 seconds and then push yourself to beat that each time.

Pushups - Okay, if I'm being totally honest I can not do a single push up, I have the worst upper body strength known to man, or woman in this case. But whilst they are hard to do, there is easier ways to do them. Do them on your knees or with your legs spread apart, whichever works best and easiest for you. You can even do them stood up against a wall. You'll be working your arm muscles as well as muscles in your chest.

Squats - Now everyone loves a good squat, it's my absolute favourite exercise to do. There is so many ways to do them. You can do it the normal way or from a sitting position on a chair/sofa. Do a couple of sets whilst you're watching Corrie every evening and you will start to see a noticeable difference. You should feel the burn in the back of your legs when you're doing them correctly.

Dancing - Ever catch yourself dancing in the mirror whilst you're cleaning up and feel a little embarassed? Well don't, dancing is a great way to get your cardio in, and great for your heart. It can also take you from a bad mood to a good one in an instant. So stick on Spotify, close the curtains and put on your favourite song and dance like nobody is watching!

Jogging on the Spot - You can do this exercise anywhere, any time for however long you want. You can jog on the spot whilst cooking your dinner, or even whilst watching the TV. Just make sure you've got a good pair of trainers on to eliminate stress to your legs.

Weight Lifting - Now I know you just looked at this one in horror and thought "I'm not lifting weights I don't want to get too big" but I can assure you that's not going to happen. Lifting weights is a great way to burn fat, build muscle and create sexy womanly curves. It's also great for bones and an incredible stress relief! You don't even have to go out and spend lots of money on weights, you can use household items you already have at home. Like tins of food, milk cartons or laundry detergent.

Steps Exercises - Using any steps or even a box in your home do some step exercises. You can do repetitions and sets and you will tone your legs at the same time. Just start off with some box steps and work up to some harder and more intense exercises.

It's incredibly important to exercise as not only does it benefit our health but it also helps with our mental health as well. I always feel on cloud 9 after doing a good workout, and I'm pumped and ready for the day ahead. You don't need to spend a fortune on a gym membership and you are also more likely to stick to it when you feel comfortable doing it. So get up and get active. And please do let me know if you would like to see more posts like this in the future.
