First Impressions: Nivea Men Post Shave Balm

If you're a fan of Youtube beauty guru's like NikkieTutorials then there is no doubt that you have probably seen the latest beauty craze. It's been all over the beauty world since around May last year but it's only recently that I have decided to jump on the bandwagon and give it a try. I am of course talking about using Nivea Men's Post Shave Balm as a primer for your foundation. I first put up a Twitter poll asking if it's worth all the hype it's been getting and received some very mixed reviews. I had people tell me the smell was very off putting and others who said the formula was too runny for them. I did also get some good comments saying it worked well for them and they found their foundation had all day staying power.

So here I am with my own first impressions post, my initial first impression was the size of the bottle and how much it contained for the mere £3 that I paid for it (I ordered it from Amazon) upon opening the bottle I did get a very strong manly smell, but it wasn't anything unpleasant. It smelt slightly like Lynx, which is a smell I very much enjoy on a male. The formula indeed is very runny and comes out of the bottle very fast as it's just an open hole. So you do have to be very quick when pouring and applying the product.

On applying the product Nikkie stated that you are supposed to wait for it to go tacky/sticky before applying your foundation but even after waiting 15 minutes there was no stickiness, and I couldn't afford to wait any longer as I had to get ready for work. Maybe I didn't use enough, or maybe I used too much and it took too long to dry? Who knows, I am hoping to try this again another day maybe on its own just to see how long it takes for the stickiness to develop? Not sure if that's the correct word there, but that what I'm going with, ha!

Upon second use of this product, I gave myself a little more time to apply the product and I added a little more and thoroughly massaged the product into my skin and within seconds it was tacky enough to apply my foundation. After applying my foundation I noticed my skin looked smoother and more flawless. After doing a long 8 hour shift at work I noticed my make-up had stayed in place perfectly, although there was a little bit of oiliness around my t-zone area but that was easily covered with a swipe of a blot tissue and a touch up of powder.

Overall I am extremely happy with this product and it's use as a primer, and I will continue to use it for as long as I notice benefits with my skin and make-up. And for the mere price of £3 for such a large bottle it's amazing value for money. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who was asking for a new primer. If you was one of those people like me who was very sceptical about this product, don't be! It's amazing and it really does work!

  2. Yeah the whole waiting for it to go tacky is a very important step, I noticed a huge difference in my make-up when I let it go tacky. The smell is amazing also! x
